Freeport-McMoRan Miami operations and Cobre Valley Institute of Technology (CVIT) are pleased to announce a partnership to implement an electrical training program for CVIT students for the fall 2024 semester.
The Miami operations technical training team will be providing experienced and state certified Senior Technical Instructors along with a modern approved curriculum and training resources aligned with an existing CTED program in the state to develop today’s youth for future careers in high demand electrical fields. The initial cohort has 19 students enrolled from three of different Copper Corridor high schools.
Training will be provided at the Gila Community College Regional Training Center through a facility use agreement as part of an afternoon CVIT program. Students will learn fundamental electrical construction and repair skills that will better position them for entry into critical electrical careers. Successful students will graduate from the program with basic safe electrical skills and will be certified in CPR, OSHA-10 and NFPA 70-E.
CVIT serves students enrolled in Miami, Globe, Liberty, San Carlos, Superior, Ray, and Hayden-Winkelman high schools, as well as homeschool and online students. Juniors and seniors are eligible for this specific program. CVIT provides innovative training for students to enter the Cobre Valley and Copper Basin workforce. This is accomplished through partnerships in community resources to enhance career skills and improve employability options. It allows students to train for industry certificates to ensure successful entry into the labor market.
